Editorial Policy
Revista Cadernos ESP is an open-access scientific journal committed to the qualified dissemination of knowledge in Public Health, guided by the principles of scientific integrity, equity, diversity, and inclusion. The journal does not tolerate any form of discrimination and promotes critical, interdisciplinary, and socially relevant scientific production.
The content published is the sole responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily reflect the positions of the editorial board or the publishing institution.
Editorial Structure
The editorial structure of the journal consists of an Editor-in-Chief, Scientific Editor, Executive Editors, Editorial Board, and an editorial production team. Its composition seeks to ensure institutional and geographic diversity, in accordance with best editorial practices.
Open Access
The journal adopts an immediate open-access model, providing free access to all published articles.
All content is licensed under Creative Commons CC BY 4.0, allowing use, sharing, and adaptation, provided proper attribution is given.
Peer Review Process
All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial evaluation (desk review), assessing scope alignment, originality, writing quality, compliance with guidelines, and similarity checks.
Manuscripts approved at this stage are submitted to double-blind peer review, conducted by ad hoc reviewers external to the publishing institution.
Evaluation criteria include:
- relevance and originality
- methodological rigor
- theoretical consistency
- quality of analysis and writing
Editorial decisions may result in:
- acceptance
- acceptance with revisions
- resubmission for further review
- rejection
In the 2024–2025 biennium, the average time from submission to editorial decision was 79 days, reflecting the efficiency of the editorial workflow and commitment to rigorous peer review.
Ethics and Integrity in Publication
The journal follows international ethical standards, including COPE, ICMJE, and DOAJ.
It adopts policies for plagiarism prevention, management of scientific misconduct, and post-publication corrections, ensuring transparency and integrity in scientific communication.
Ethical Requirements for Research
Research involving human subjects must comply with CNS Resolutions No. 466/2012 and No. 510/2016 and be approved by an Ethics Committee.
Animal studies must comply with applicable national legislation and international guidelines.
Ethical approval information must be included in the methods section.
Reporting Guidelines
The journal recommends the use of international reporting guidelines from the EQUATOR Network (CONSORT, PRISMA, STROBE, CARE, COREQ, ARRIVE), aiming to improve quality, transparency, and reproducibility.
Similarity Check
Manuscripts are screened using specialized software (iThenticate). Significant similarity may result in rejection or requests for revision.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
The use of artificial intelligence tools must be declared by the authors. Such tools cannot be credited as authors, and full responsibility for the content remains with the authors.
Post-publication Corrections
The journal adopts mechanisms for errata, retraction, expression of concern, and addendum.
Conflict of Interest
Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest.
Authorship and Copyright
The journal follows ICMJE authorship criteria. All authors must have made substantial contributions, and their roles must be described using the CRediT taxonomy.
Authors retain copyright while granting the journal the right of first publication under CC BY 4.0.
Article Processing Charges
The journal does not charge submission or publication fees (APC).
Additional costs related to translation into foreign languages and Portuguese language editing, when required during the production stage, are the responsibility of the authors.
Data Privacy
Personal data are used exclusively for editorial purposes, in compliance with applicable data protection regulations.

Revista Cadernos ESP is funded by the Escola de Saúde Pública do Ceará (ESP/CE), linked to the State Health Department of Ceará.
