Ethical Aspects

Research involving human beings must comply with current ethical standards, especially CNS Resolutions No. 466/2012 and No. 510/2016.

When the research involves, directly or indirectly, human beings, it is mandatory to attach, at the time of submission, the approval opinion from the Research Ethics Committee (REC).

This requirement applies, among other cases, to studies involving:

  • direct participation of individuals in interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, tests, interventions, or procedures;
  • collection or analysis of personal, sensitive, or identifiable data;
  • use of medical records, clinical forms, institutional databases, or health information systems;
  • use of images, audio, video, or any information that may identify participants;
  • use of human biological material;
  • clinical studies, trials involving human beings, or interventions in health services.

Information on ethical approval must appear in the Methods section of the manuscript, including the name of the Research Ethics Committee, the approval number, and, when applicable, the CAAE number.

In cases where the study is exempt from ethical review, authors must provide justification in the manuscript and attach supporting documentation, when available.

Animal studies must comply with current legislation and applicable ethical guidelines, and must present approval from the competent committee or commission, when required.

Registration of Clinical Trials and Systematic Reviews

Clinical trials must be registered on recognized platforms, such as ICTRP/WHO, ReBEC, or equivalent platforms.

The registration number must be provided at the end of the abstract and in the Methods section.

Systematic reviews must present prospective registration on recognized platforms, such as PROSPERO or equivalent platforms, when applicable.

Authorship, Responsibility, and Mandatory Declarations

Authors must ensure that the manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under simultaneous review by another journal.

The journal adopts ICMJE authorship criteria. All authors must have made substantial contributions to the work, approved the final version, and assumed public responsibility for the content.

Individual contributions must be reported according to the CRediT Taxonomy.

At the time of submission, authors must attach the Declaration of Authorship, Responsibility, Copyright, Manuscript Origin, and Use of Artificial Intelligence, duly completed and signed.

In this declaration, authors must report:

  • whether the manuscript is original or derived from previous academic work, such as an undergraduate thesis, residency final paper, master’s dissertation, or doctoral thesis;
  • when the manuscript is derived from previous academic work, the reference to the repository or original source;
  • whether artificial intelligence tools were used in any stage of manuscript preparation;
  • when AI was used, the tool used, its purpose, the manuscript sections involved, and the authors’ responsibility for the content;
  • assurance that no sensitive personal data, identifiable data, confidential information, or content protected by confidentiality was entered into AI tools without authorization.

Artificial intelligence tools cannot be recognized as authors. Full responsibility for the manuscript content lies with the authors.

Conflicts of Interest and Funding

Authors must declare the existence or absence of conflicts of interest.

They must also report funding sources, scholarships, grants, or institutional support related to the study.

Open Science, Preprints, and Research Data

The journal accepts manuscripts previously deposited on recognized preprint servers, provided that this condition is reported at the time of submission, with the name of the server and DOI or persistent identifier, when available.

The journal encourages the sharing of data, code, instruments, supplementary materials, and other research-related resources in reliable repositories, preferably with a persistent identifier, such as a DOI.

When data cannot be made available, authors must justify the restriction in the manuscript.

Supplementary materials must be cited in the text and submitted as additional files.
