ONCOLOGY PHYSIOTHERAPIST IN PALLIATIVE CARE

The objective of this study was to identify and describe the role of the oncology physical therapist in the context of palliative care. An integrative literature review of studies published in the PubMed/Medline, PEDro, SciELO and LILACS databases was conducted. The search occurred in the month of March/2022, with a cutoff period of the last 10 years. 6,896 articles were found, 09 were selected. Patients with advanced cancer are affected by physical and biopsychosocial symptoms such as fatigue and pain, which due to cancer and its treatment impact negatively on their quality of life. Physiotherapy achieved a significant reduction in fatigue, pain, improved appetite, and depression, among others. Kinesiotherapy has effectively contributed to pain reduction in hospitalized patients. The resources used are kinesiotherapy, aerobic exercises, balance, and resistance. Physiotherapy confirms its role in humanized palliative care, through monitoring and reducing physical, psychological and spiritual signs and symptoms.
