Ethical Standards for Publication

Cadernos ESP’s commitment to ethical publishing requires that all submitted manuscripts comply with ethical and legal guidelines:

  • Research Involving Human Subjects: For studies involving human subjects, as per Resolution CNS nº 466/2012, Brazilian authors must indicate in the manuscript that the study has been approved by an Ethics Committee, recognized by the National Commission for Research Ethics (CONEP-CNS), or an equivalent entity if the research was conducted outside Brazil.

  • Research Involving Animals: For experimental studies with animals, the guidelines established by Law nº 11.794/2008, and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (1996) must be followed, including the Ethical Principles in Animal Experimentation from the Brazilian College of Animal Experimentation (COBEA).

These details should be included in the manuscript’s methodology section, according to the ARRIVE guidelines.

Similarity/Plagiarism Verification

Cadernos ESP uses iThenticate software for similarity verification in submitted manuscripts. If significant similarities are identified, the scientific editor decides whether to reject the manuscript or contact the authors for necessary adjustments.

Literature Corrections

To maintain scientific integrity, Cadernos ESP has specific procedures for post-publication corrections:

  • Expression of Concern: If there is suspicion of misconduct, the scientific editor may issue a note of concern to inform readers while the issue is investigated.

  • Erratum: If errors are identified in published articles, an erratum is appended to the text, ensuring correction and transparency for the reader.

  • Retraction: In cases of confirmed misconduct requiring retraction, the article remains in the system with a notice on each page indicating its retraction.

  • Addendum: If the author needs to add relevant information to an already published article, an addendum is published, and all registered readers are notified.

Conflicts of Interest

All conflicts of interest, whether financial, personal, political, religious, or of any other nature that may affect the impartiality of the review process, must be disclosed by editors, authors, and reviewers.

Authorship and Copyright Declaration

Authors retain their copyright, granting Cadernos ESP the right to first publication under the CC BY license. At the time of submission, all authors are required to submit:

  • A Declaration of Authorship, Responsibility, and Copyright;
