Breastfeeding is regarded as the best source of nutrition for infants. Ankyloglossia restricts tongue movements and causes changes in function and appearance, potentially compromising breastfeeding due to poor infant latch. Objective the purpose of this study was to report the experience of a dentist during her residency in Family and Community Health working for one year on a multiprofessional team managing infants with ankyloglossia from diagnosis to treatment for one-year. Methods the lingual frenulum was evaluated and, when necessary, infants up to 24 months of age were submitted to frenotomy. Results following guidance or frenotomy, an improvement in infant latch was observed. Final considerations this experience allowed the team to promote breastfeeding, potentially improving these children's quality of life.
