Resumen

The epidemiological transition is unfolding in with different pace in different regions of the globe. The average life span will increase by 5 years in developed economies and by
10 years in developing economies. According to projections the number of Alzheimer’s cases will increase by almost 3 times in developed economies, and by 8 times in developing economies, like Brazil. This paper uses the rubrics of epidemiology, as proposed by Anthony, to organize the exploration of different aspects of the
distribution of Alzheimer Disease in human populations. The rubrics are: quantity, location, causes and mechanisms, and interventions and prevention. For each rubric future directions are presented in the study of Alzheimer Disease.
