SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC AND CLINICAL PROFILE OF ONCOLOGY PATIENTS IN PALLIATIVE CARE AT A PUBLIC HOSPITAL IN CEARÁ, BRAZIL

Objective: To describe the sociodemographic and clinical profile of cancer patients in palliative care at a public hospital in Ceará, Brazil. Method: quantitative, descriptive and retrospective, at the General Hospital of Fortaleza, from 2/July to 7/August/2020, using evaluation forms of the palliative care team, data from February to July/2018. Results: Was evaluated. 62 patients. Male(61.3%). Coming from Fortaleza(59.7%).Frequent neoplasms :neurological and gastrointestinal (both 22.5%). Medicines used for pain: Dipyrone (50%), Morphine (59.7%). They reported pain(93.5%). Dyspnea(17.7%) and edema(50%). The frequent score of the Palliative Performance Scale, resulted in 30 (32.3%). Deaths (58.1%). Conclusion: The study revealed several types of symptoms of suffering and on admission to HGF, the patients' functionality was greatly reduced, leading to a greater death outcome. These data can help public managers to promote early treatment actions, in an attempt to provide a longer and better quality of life to patients with advanced cancer.
