“Our Journal Cadernos ESP was founded in 2005, with the mission of publishing original scientific articles, with research results relevant to Public Health of regional, national and international interest, aiming to reduce health inequalities in Brazil.” Its early childhood was spent in full development; its adolescence was equally healthy. “Now, in 2025, it has come of age, celebrating its 20th anniversary with 42 issues published, as it has always been very well cared for by its Editorial Board and by the Managers of the Ceará School of Public Health (ESP-CE).” When naming our journal, we were inspired by ENSP’s Cadernos de Saúde Pública. But the name ‘Cadernos’ also reminded us of Toquinho’s beautiful song.” .“Cadernos ESP is guided by ethics in research and the principles of democratic inclusion. We believe in science as a means to improve the quality of life of the population.”. And today, two decades later, we reaffirm this commitment to science, education and the strengthening of the SUS, connecting Ceará to Brazil and the world [Excerpt from the Editorial]
